Belgium borders the North Sea and lies between France, Germany, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Although a relatively small country of just 30,528 sq km, the capital of Belgium Brussels is the seat of the European Union and NATO.
Brussels is a dual language capital and both French and Dutch are the official languages here. So all road signs and street names are in both languages. Over 1000 years old, Brussels has magnificent architecture from gothic cathedrals to art-deco houses. If visiting Brussels don't forget to see the famous Mannekin Pis found on the corner of Eikstraat/Stoofstraat near the Grand Place.
The northern part of Belgium is called the Flanders and includes many historical cities including the magnificent Bruges, Antwerp and Ghent. Each of these and many other cities found in the Flanders have medieval squares, tree lined canals, superb architecture, museums and plenty of outdoor cafes to watch the world go by.
Many visitors take the opportunity to enjoy local beer, of which there are more than 450 varieties or sample some of its world famous chocolates from one of the 2,000 chocolate shops. You could take part in chocolate tours, tasting events and visit a chocolate museum.
