Although the Island is only 221 square miles with 80,000 residents, it has a lot to offer, not least, its beautiful rugged coastlines with basking sharks, museums and nature reserves. It has a Victorian railway system with steam engines dating back to the 1800's. It is also home of the famous Manx cat. The Island is the location for many bike meetings and events as well as the Isle of Man TT Race meeting and the quieter Manx Grand Prix.
Isle of Man is a top spot for walking enthusiasts and holds many annual walking festivals. The Forestry Commission looks after the island's 17 glens within its 221 square miles. The Isle of Man operates many diving schools and has some of the best diving sites in Europe. Its waters are teeming with sea life and you can enjoy boating trips and Basking Shark observation trips when they congregate there in the summer months.
Douglas, the island's capital, is on the eastern side and it is from here that you can catch the steam train to Port Erin on the south of the island.
